Where does the name Piccadilly Circus come from?

SHORT ANSWER

The name comes from the word piccadill – a frilly collar popular in the 17th Century.

FULL STORY

The popularity of the piccadill was enough to make the fortune of tailor Robert Baker, whose London home became known as Piccadilly House.

When, in 1819, a circus (an open circular area where several roads join) was built nearby, it got the name Piccadilly Circus.

That’s all folks.
